He explained that after having done well in the early part of the season, this gelding lost its form during the winter, however it started to work well at track work since a couple of weeks and a better run was expected from it today. He added that the fact that it was racing in a lower category and that it was able to take the lead easily had perhaps contributed to its good performance today. His explanations were noted.

When questioned with regard to the poor performance of Solar Symbol, jockey Dettori explained that after being sluggish at the start, this gelding did not feel comfortable in the early stages of the race. As such, he settled it at the back of the field instead of insisting to race closer to the lead and the further the race went the shorter its action became, he then pulled it out of the race being of the opinion that there must be something wrong with it. A subsequent veterinary examination of Solar Symbol revealed no apparent abnormality.
